In Memory of Mary Campbell

March 4th, 2010 § 0

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the death of our fellow FOL Board Member, Mary Campbell. It is hard to imagine our meetings without her elegance, humor and willingness to lend a hand whenever we needed help for an event or project. She was a longtime and dedicated member of our group and we will miss her.

Art Sale coming this winter

September 8th, 2009 § 4

(updated 12/3 with correct days of the week)

As you know, the library is having a tough time in this floundering economy. The Friends board has wondered how we could augment the money we raise with our book sales. A new member inspired us with tales of the successful art sale that the Friends of the Library in Eugene are organizing each year. It seemed a wonderful idea.

These juried art shows will provide the community with the opportunity to see the work, meet the artists and do some holiday shopping that will benefit the library as well as the artists. Since our meeting room is small and there are so many wonderful artists in this area, we decided to have three shows.

First weekend:
Friday, Dec. 4, 4pm- 8 pm
Saturday, Dec. 5, 9am-4:30pm

Second weekend – Friday only:
Dec. 11,  3pm – 8pm

Third weekend:
Friday, Dec. 18, 3pm – 8pm
Saturday, Dec. 19, 9am – 4:30 pm

As a fundraiser, we will be collecting a 20% commission on all sales over the three weekends. We have 34 artists signed up, with a different group of artists for each weekend, including paintings, photography, fiber art, book art, fine jewelry and other metal art, pottery, glass and glass painting. For each show we will have a nice mix of different media. Many of the established artists we contacted agreed to do this event just to help out the library. Hurray for our community!

We also have a great raffle price of a a beautiful hooked wall hanging, donated by a wonderful artist from Nova Scotia who had heard about our first-time effort. (One of her rugs was chosen by the family for a British Royal Wedding as a gift.)

Here is the list of the artists participating:

As they say: “pardon the dust.” We’re changing things up on our website; it should be all set in a week or so.

Where Am I?
