Come out to the library on the evening of Thursday, September 23 and celebrate the Friends of the Olympia Library!

We will be updating you on our recent work and honoring important friends. We’ll also be hearing from David Markham, and Olympia resident and a patron of our library!

From the event announcement:

The Friends of the Olympia Library will introduce J. David Markham, author, Olympia resident and internationally recognized expert on Napoleon Bonaparte. Markham is a regular on the History Channel, host of the podcast “Napoleon 101″ and author of several books including “Napoleon for Dummies.” Markham will discuss Napoleon’s love of libraries and learning. He’ll also share his experiences writing a book for the “Dummies” series. The Friends of the Library will talk about ways the organization benefits the library and the community. Enjoy refreshments and an opportunity to offer input. This event will be held after library open hours; other library services will not be available.

PageTurners is a book discussion group composed of Olympia Library card holders that meets on the third Friday of the month September thru June. There are 15 or so of us and Cheryl Heywood, the Director of the Olympia Library, serves as moderator. All are welcome!

The books are selected by the PageTurners members each year in June. Our major focus is on reading the works of contemporary foreign authors, both fiction and non-fiction. The discussions are always vigorous, illuminating and a great deal of fun!

The Friends of the Olympia Library purchases five copies of each book that we’ve chosen. After the PageTurners read a book, all of the copies are donated to the Library for its circulating collection.
