OLYMPIA PAGE TURNERS BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER

Page Turners, a book club sponsored by Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library, will have its first meeting on September 5, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 at the library. The selection is “Undaunted Courage” by Stephen Ambrose. This is a timely selection as it is the story of the Lewis and Clark expedition to explore the territory acquired by the Louisiana Purchase two hundred years ago. This event is currently being celebrated in many areas of the Pacific Northwest. The book for October is “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel. It will be discussed on October 3. Pi, a 16 year old boy, is stranded on a life boat with a Bengal tiger. He recounts his journey of 227 days fighting hunger, the elements and his imagination. The selection for November 7 is “Fall On Your Knees” by Ann Marie MacDonald. It is a saga of five generations of a Nova Scotia family. It centers on four sisters and their relationships with each other and their father.

BOARD MEETING IS SEPTEMBER 9

The Board of the Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library will begin at 10:00 a.m. on September 9th. Cheryl Heywood, Olympia Library Manager, will review the activities and the equipment funded by the Friends in the past year. Wanda Hedrick, book sale chair, will lead a discussion of a draft statement about the philosophy and purpose of the book sales. Members of Friends are invited to attend the meeting.
